Who should buy Apple’s M1 Macs ??

Every time that I watch a video about one of the new M1 Macs, the same comment kept emerging over and over again; “ Who should buy an M1 Mac if they’re eying one and who should hold off to next-gen?”; in this article, I will discuss who should buy a new Mac whether for office work or creativity or just some general use by an average consumer who wants to occasionally stress out their machine with some less than average video editing on a 50-second video clip shot on a 12-megabyte camera.

Note that: numbers will not be discussed in this article as all the devices have the same guts and can be specced out identically; According to all of the tech content creators, all of them perform very similarly within a margin of error; The only differences are form-factor, and the presence of an active cooling system also called as a fan when it comes to the MacBook Air as it only has a heat sync.

The MacBook Air*:

The new MacBook Air

The MacBook Air is probably the best machine for an average user when it comes to the combination of power, overall portability, and overall comfort of use. The new MacBook Air is right on par with the top-spec MacBook Pro 16, which is a conversation that was never to be had before, ever. When it comes to the overall portability of the MacBook Air; it’s a champ compared to the other Mac Notebooks; its tiny power-adapter combined with its light chassis it’s the lightest of the bunch making it the most portable; And when it comes to Comfort, the tapered design makes it the most comfortable to type on as it doesn’t have the edge that digs into one’s palm as they type like the MacBook Pro; that’s not to say that the MacBook Pro is an uncomfortable machine to use, but over a prolonged period of use the MacBook Air is a bit more comfortable to type on, college students will understand what I mean the best here. It’s also completely silent no matter how beat up it is because it’s fanless; Again, that doesn’t mean that you’re buying a machine that sounds like a jet engine when you buy the MacBook Pro.

The MacBook Pro*:

The M1 MacBook Pro comes at a little bit of a hefty premium when you compare it to the MacBook Air, as an average consumer myself, I say it doesn’t justify that premium for all of those who are living a normal life doing office work or freelancing or browsing the internet for funny pet videos; but for those who are doing creative work, graphical design or more demanding tasks like CAD design, video-editing or photo-editing for example, then only would the MacBook Pro justify its premium over the MacBook Air and the even cheaper Mac Mini other than that I recommend you not to buy the MacBook Pro because its a pro Machine.

The Mac mini*:

The new Mac mini

The Mac mini is a tiny desktop machine that you will need to buy everything for as it doesn’t come with anything but the power connector in the box, Most people have all of the stuff needed to connect that device into so it’s no big deal. The only drawback is that it’s not portable, so if you’re looking for a machine that you can carry with you anywhere then you should probably take a look at the new notebooks. if you are someone that doesn’t like your desktop to be connected to your TV which, believe me, some people do, then this might not be the best choice for you because you’ll have to buy your own monitor, speaker, desk and if you don’t have peripherals like the mouse and the keyboard then you’ll have to buy those too, and all this stuff brings the price up so much that you can compare the price of this desktop to that of the MacBook Pro or even the MacBook Pro if you choose some nice stuff to buy.

*All the devices mentioned are the baseline models with no upgrades.

Who should buy any of the new Macs??

The only people who should buy the new Macs are students and individuals who are just getting started with creativity and recently graduated college students ( This year’s graduates or last year’s graduates ) who don’t have an established workflow as well as those who know that they will only use ARM utilized applications on their new device.

Professionals who have an established workflow should wait for the next-gen Macs as they are leaked to be insanely powerful with processors having up to 128 cores which is unreal.
